PocketQB is a comprehensive MCQ practice app tailored
specifically for medical students. By providing a vast
repository of past papers and MCQs, performance tracking,
intelligent recommendations, and social features, the app aims to
enhance students' preparation for their tests and exams.
The development of PocketQB stemmed from the recognition of the challenges faced by medical students in effectively preparing for their tests and exams. Medical education is known for its rigorous curriculum and the need for in-depth understanding of complex concepts. MCQs are a common assessment format used in medical exams to evaluate students' knowledge and application of medical principles.
The lack of easily accessible and comprehensive MCQ resources, coupled with limited opportunities to practice in simulated exam conditions, hindered students' ability to excel in their studies. We were passionate about addressing these pain points and empowering students to succeed. Through PocketQB, we aimed to provide a solution that would not only offer a vast repository of high-quality MCQs but also incorporate performance tracking, intelligent recommendations, explanatory solutions, and social features. Our goal was to create a tool that would revolutionize how medical students prepare for their exams, enabling them to practice effectively, understand concepts deeply, and achieve their academic goals.
Some common pain points that users might face include:
Young Adults, MBBS/MD Students
The user personas are based on various personalities
identified after talking to a few people.
These personas represent different user profiles and their respective goals, challenges, and expectations. Conducting user research and incorporating these personas into the design process will help ensure that the PocketQB app caters to the diverse needs of its users.
Limited Content Relevance: Medical students require highly relevant and up-to-date study materials to succeed in their exams. If the app's content lacks accuracy or fails to cover essential topics, students may struggle to find valuable resources for their exam preparation.
Inefficient Navigation: A complex or confusing app interface can make it difficult for students to navigate and find the relevant study materials they need. Poor navigation may lead to frustration and reduced motivation to use the app.
Inadequate Performance Tracking: Students need to monitor their progress to identify weak areas and track improvement over time. Without comprehensive performance tracking and analytics, users may struggle to evaluate their performance and make informed study decisions.
Limited Offline Access: Reliable access to study materials, even without an internet connection, is crucial for on-the-go studying. If the app lacks offline access to content, it may hinder students from studying in various settings.
Other apps were either too simple, had UX issues or didn’t have the right papers.
‘challenging to access a comprehensive collection of relevant MCQs’
"Medical students lack a comprehensive and convenient tool to effectively practice and revise for exams,
hindering their ability to achieve optimal performance and knowledge retention."
of people prefer to use some type of online software to search for question papers.
to understand how the students behavior has changed from keeping past papers printed and stored to keeping them saved in cloud storage.

Brainstorming ideas and features for the app involves generating a wide range of possibilities, considering user needs and pain points, and exploring innovative solutions to enhance exam revision for medical students.
In the feature prioritization matrix for this app, key criteria could include the relevance of features to exam preparation, user feedback and needs, technical feasibility, and potential impact on enhancing the study experience for medical students. By using this matrix, the development team can prioritize features that align with these criteria to deliver a high-value and user-centric app.
The wireframes used simple shapes, placeholders, and minimal styling to provide a clear and concise representation of the app's intended structure and functionality.
After conducting user testing with the lo-fi wireframes, several valuable insights were gained to inform the app's design and functionality.
After I had the sketches and and the information architecture in my hand, I started to create high-fidelity versions of my designs.
Did users like what I designed ?
Here are some key findings from usability testing conducted on the app:
Navigation: Users found the app's navigation intuitive and were able to easily find and access different features and sections.
